From September 21st to October 8th, 2023, the Quinzena de Dança de Almada - International Dance Festival will hold its 31st edition, in various cultural spaces in Almada.
Opening the program, between September 21st and 23rd, will be the International Platform for Choreographers, with an intense schedule of performances, video dance, workshops, round tables, and meetings between participating artists and cultural programmers. The events take place in the Auditório Fernando Lopes-Graça, Teatro-Estúdio António Assunção, Audotório Osvaldo Azinheira and, for the first time, in the Salão das Carochas, the emblematic building located in Largo Conde Ferreira, in Almada.
The festival program continues over the following two weeks with the presentation of the performance “Ramanenjana”, by the Romanian company Tangaj Collective, and the performance for the families “Sons Mentirosos Misteriosos”, by the Portuguese duo Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, both at the Auditório Fernando Lopes-Graça, the premiere of the new creation of the Companhia de Dança de Almada, “ShortCut”, at the Teatro Municipal Joaquim Benite, and the presentation of the performance “L.E.V.E.”, by the Spanish company Siberia Danza, at the Auditório Osvaldo Azinheira - Academia Almadense.
Dance films will also have an important presentation space, with two proposed programs: “Un(Safe) Zones”, curated by Simona Deaconescu (Romania), presented in partnership with BIDFF – Bucharest International Dance Film Festival, at the Auditório Fernando Lopes-Graça; and “Cisnografia - a reescrita do cisne”, an idea by Luiz Antunes (Portugal), in partnership with the MNAA – Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, presented at the Museu de Almada - Casa da Cidade.
To close the edition, Italian choreographer Brian Scalini will be in Almada for an artistic residency with students from Ca.DA Escola and to reassemble his creation “Wuthering Days”, with dancers from Companhia de Dança de Almada, whose presentation closes the festival, on the stage of the Auditório Osvaldo Azinheira - Academia Almadense.
With the presentation of works by artists representing 25 countries and the promotion of various events around contemporary dance, the 31st Quinzena de Dança de Almada marks the cultural rentrée in Almada, and extends to the Escola Superior de Dança and the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, with specific programs for these school communities.
