Between September 19th and October 6th, 2024, the international festival Quinzena de Dança de Almada - with artistic direction by Ana Macara and Maria Franco - returns for its 32nd edition, with a surprising and diverse program that will occupy several spaces in the Almada city. The commitment to inclusion and promotion of new talent continues to be a fundamental pillar, as does the focus given to new creations.
Since 1992, this festival has been a vibrant space for presenting and promoting dance and related art forms, bringing together artists, choreographers, students, and enthusiasts worldwide.
In this new edition, the festival emphasizes supporting artistic creation through several artistic residencies with different professionals. The highlights include the presence of São Castro, a respected national choreographer, for the premiere of Companhia de Dança de Almada; Catarina Casqueiro and Tiago Coelho, a Portuguese duo who stood out in the International Platform for Choreographers and has since pursued a successful international career, in residence as part of the European project “Forget Me Not”; Elvi Balboa – a recognised Spanish choreographer, in partnership with the company Colectivo Glovo in the project “Atopémonos Bailando – Residencias artísticas e investigación”; and Carla Jordão, Portuguese choreographer, regular collaborator of Ca.DA, currently successfully working in Germany.
As the international highlight, the 32nd Quinzena de Dança de Almada welcomes the Italian company IVONA by Pablo Girolami. Their refined technique and energetic choreographic conception promise to confront us with a memorable performance. Finally, in Portugal, we can hardly wait.
This year, the International Platform for Choreographers continues to grow, attracting the global contemporary dance community, from which 810 entries were received, with 59 pieces selected for performance on stage and screen. It includes performances, dance on screen, workshops, round tables, and meetings among professionals, strengthening the cultural and artistic exchange.
The presentation of “Abrigo”, by EmbalArte with Ca.DA Escola, an intergenerational performance choreographed by Ângela Ribeiro and Susana Rosendo also represents the festival's commitment to the inclusion of the Almadense community in the spirit of the festival
The complete program and more information about performances locations, times and prices are available on the festival's official website.
From September 19th to October 6th, the organisation challenges anyone who is in or passing through Almada, to let themselves be immersed in a world of movement, art, emotion, and beauty in this joint celebration of dance.
