Choreography by Ricardo Ambrózio
Season Program, premiered at October 3rd 2014, in the Teatro Municipal Joaquim Benite, Almada
Based upon an exploration into the theme of time, "Todo para sempre é agora " (All for Ever and Now), aims to follow a dramatic journey involving characters imprisoned by the same reality, one which restricts them by lack of conditions, lack of hope and dreams - in which they look for a way to change their own reality.
"In the Michaelis dicionary, the word "Tempo" (Time) has 21 definitions. Can you understand them all? "A season", "A lapse in time, future or past" are two of them. But do we know what is the right time to act? To stop? When our time has passed?" - Ricardo Ambrózio
About the Coreographer
Ricardo Ambrózio, a Portuguese-Brazilian, grew up in Rio de Janeiro. From an early age he was interested in Brazilian culture including popular culture. At 6 years old he began rhythm and movement with lessons in capoeira and at 13 joined a street dance group taking part in competitions for 3 years. At 16 he met Flávia Tápias, dancer, teacher and Brazilian choreographer who invited and encouraged him to study and work as her assistant, sharing with him lessons and research material. In this manner he became resident researcher in the Centro de Documentação e Pesquisa de Dança do Rio de Janeiro (CDPD-RJ). He produced dance festivals and studied for two years at the Faculdade Angel Vianna. He moved to Lisbon when he was 20 where he attended Escola Superior de Dança. In Portugal he's worked with the Companhia de Dança de Almada, (2007-10), the highlights were working with Filipa Francisco, Rita Galo and Ana Macara; with Companhia Instável, (Hélder Seabra); and started as a choreographer and teacher, creating and developing his own style which is a mixture of all of his dance influences. Constantly seeking to research choreography, he moved to Amsterdam and Brussels where he worked with Bruno Caverna, Gerard Mosterd, Dogwolf, (Chris de Feyter's Company), Willy Dorner and Wim Vandekeybus. He worked in teh last four years in the company of Wim Vandekeybus. Currently, he runs his own project "Untamed Productions", started in 2013.
