As part of a meeting space for the practice and study of Dance, the Conservatório de Dança de Almada (Almada Dance Conservatory and formerly Ca.DA Escola), provides specialized artistic training in Dance, offering both vocational and non-vocational courses, and since 2018/19, the Basic and Secondary Dance Course, accredited by the Portuguese Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the EmÃdio Navarro School Group and the Fernão Mendes Pinto Secondary School, in Almada.
As a repertoire company dedicated to contemporary choreographic creation, Companhia de Dança de Almada has as a priority, in the training of students, the teaching of Classical Dance and Contemporary Dance. The Conservatory thus seeks to develop current technical and artistic languages open to the future. In this sense, different approaches are included in the training that contribute to the knowledge and awakening of artistic creation in practitioners.
Within the community it also promotes activities aimed at various ages, motivations and artistic skill levels, such as: workshops and courses for advanced students and performing arts professionals; dance classes for schools, colleges and centers for after school activities that want to offer this activity to their students, (whether as an extra-curricular activity or integrated into the curriculum).
Dance contributes to the individual’s development on a physical, emotional, intellectual and aesthetic level. It improves one’s coordination, flexibility and tone and also develops expressive, creative and aesthetic skills. From a psychological point of view it may have a preventive action in emotional and behavioral changes, attenuated by the body language of the individual with himself and in interaction with the group and society. The practice of Dance contributes positively to improving the quality of life and socio-cultural intervention.
