From a European perspective, much of what has been taken for granted is no longer perceived as such.

Like fallen angels, we land in a reality long ignored or from which we felt protected. We feel exposed and vulnerable. We feel the ground under our feet breaking. Our sense of trust is shaken.

Fallen angels will lose their God’s grace and protection. However, they not only feel vulnerability, pain and sadness, but they also discover belonging, pleasure and love.

Tiago Manquinho completed his education in classical and contemporary dance at Escola de Dança Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon. After his first engagement at Companhia Nacional de Bailado (Portugal), he left his home country to join the ballet ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden in 2000. This was followed by engagements at the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück and the Bielefeld Theater.
Throughout his 20-year dance career, Manquinho danced in choreographies by Vaslav Nijinski, Michael Corder, Ted Brandsen, John Neumeier, Uwe Scholz, John Cranko, Robert North, Tom Schilling, Mary Wigman, Reinhild Hoffmann and Guilherme Botelho, among others. From 2015 to 2017 he was resident choreographer at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. Manquinho has been working as a freelance choreographer since 2017, among others for the Tanztheater Staatstheater Braunschweig, Tanzcompagnie Gießen, Tanztheater Münster and Ballett Vorpommern. He has presented his independent productions, such as "Pagliacci" and "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" in Germany and Portugal. In 2021, Manquinho initiates act:on, a project that includes both its own dance productions and a wide range of socio-cultural projects. "Echogedicht" is the first production under this label, premiered in September 2021. In the context of various cross-generational community dance projects, he has worked since 2007, regularly with students with and without special needs, adults, long-term unemployed, refugees, people with a migration background and delinquent youths. From 2014 he is a lecturer for dance at the University of Bielefeld (Faculty of Sports Science) and regularly teaches contemporary dance and Contact-Improvisation.
