Inspired by some short stories from the book “Short Movies” by Gonçalo M. Tavares, "ShortCut" is perhaps a visit to someone’s inner self. "ShortCut" tells us several stories, but focuses on just one, which inside has all the others, but is unique.
“A SOUND. One sound is enough. It’s enough to trigger a memory. It’s good to have memories. They remind us that we exist, that we were what we are today, or not. Good memories, bad memories… They make up the me that I inhabit, and only I know the me that I inhabit. I can navigate inside myself and know every bit of what I’ve experienced.
What if it was possible to see the self that everyone inhabits?
One sound was all it took for us to enter its interior without permission. The interior that only those who live there know, the story that only those who have lived it know. A story that hasn’t been told, shared or surpassed. This story was lived alone.
The sound of a tray falling from her hands, from her clumsy maid’s hands, was all it took to transport us, to remind us of the similarity between this sound and the sound of a grenade. A grenade that once exploded near the heart of someone close to us, someone we loved, someone who left without warning…
ShortCut seems to be talking about a war.
About the worst war we can fight.
The war with the self we inhabit.
The war with the fears that dwell within us.
Wars and fears, on the paths I take within my memories.”
